Try the GPL quiz.
No peeking first! I got seven out of nine… more work required, obviously!

At best, a crap marketing

Sunday, May 26th, 2002

At best, a crap marketing ploy. At worst a tool to harvest valid email
addresses for spamming. If it is the second, woe are we.

… and another person makes four. Well now, I have unsubscribed myself
from that system, fingers crossed that it will not result in tons of
spam and stuff. Because from reading stuff on the Internet, I am not so
sure that that is not what will happen!

P.S. I apologise profusely to any redheads I know. No bad feelings, I hope ;)

One wonders if it’s all

Sunday, May 26th, 2002

One wonders if it’s all a joke :-) Have just gotten three mails from
SomeoneLikesYou to say
that a person has put me in the list of people s/he likes. One of the
silly things about depending on the Internet for this is that, for
example, I can’t think of the name of the only red-haired person I can
think of at the moment, let alone her email address ;-) I must say it
has been fun thinking up people to fit the profiles, but it has all
been rather academic. Getting three mails within 24 hours seems rather
suspicious… though I can’t see what there is to be suspicious about.
Unless it’s the website trying to drum up business :-)

CCS Vol. 8 - due

CCS Vol. 8 - due
to be released on May 14? Sorry, I got this from Amazon a month ago!!

One thing I realise as I read through this site (I hadn’t looked at it before)
is that CmdrTaco is a big Cardcaptor Sakura fan as
well! Cool!

One more reason for Debian

One more reason for Debian happiness -

  • “apt-cache search” when somebody says ‘do you have something that does
xxx’. It’s nearly as good as Freshmeat. As
you’d expect, it has almost everything - Debian Woody will be available on
    8(!!) CDs…

Some reasons for GNU/Linux happiness:

Some reasons for GNU/Linux happiness:

  • Running Debian woody, nice stable system.
  • apt-get makes installing what I want easy.
  • Tracking sid version of mozilla is pretty neat (see
    /etc/apt/preferences)
  • My conexant modem now has a dual binary/source implementation of a
module which lets me connect from
    home
    to the Net.
  • Now that I’ve killed Nautilus, I’ve actually got plenty of memory to
run things quickly on my laptop.
  • apt source for Java 1.3.1_FCS is useful… especially now that I’m going
to mess around a bit with JBoss.
  • ACPI patches
make my laptop work acceptably, and it even goes into passive cooling mode
when the temperature reaches 85 degrees! Oooh I see there’s a new release
out with “sleep improvements”. I hope it fixes my problem -
“echo 1 > /proc/acpi/sleep” causes an immediate hang.

Just over a week since

Thursday, May 9th, 2002

Just over a week since I left NSP.
Just over a week since I gave up booting to W2K and booted to Debian
GNU/Linux instead. No more work requirements for IE (yet).
And I’m happy :-)
:wq (’nuff said)

Well ‘umi’ means more ‘ocean’

Well ‘umi’ means more ‘ocean’ than ’sea’, but it’ll do for my purposes :-)
