Some reasons for GNU/Linux happiness:
- Running Debian woody, nice stable system.
- apt-get makes installing what I want easy.
- Tracking sid version of mozilla is pretty neat (see
/etc/apt/preferences) - My conexant modem now has a dual binary/source implementation of a
module which lets me connect from
home to the Net. - Now that I’ve killed Nautilus, I’ve actually got plenty of memory to
run things quickly on my laptop. - apt source for Java 1.3.1_FCS is useful… especially now that I’m going
to mess around a bit with JBoss. - ACPI patches
make my laptop work acceptably, and it even goes into passive cooling mode
when the temperature reaches 85 degrees! Oooh I see there’s a new release
out with “sleep improvements”. I hope it fixes my problem -
“echo 1 > /proc/acpi/sleep” causes an immediate hang.
