The poor telecoms industry. Debts, debts, debts galore, Worldcom almost down the tubes, many
others ready to follow. One could almost say Eircom was wise to not go hell for
leather. Even if we are a third-world country in terms of telecoms, we do have
a functioning and profitable company.

Gary the detective. That’s part of my job spec in this place :) And it’s
fun! For the moment anyway. Tracking down off-by-one errors has a certain
something…

Bolero by Ravel. Exciting stuff, one could say ;) And now
Air (on a G String?) by Bach starting… much calmer, more
peaceful. As you could imagine, I found The Classic Experience :-)

I’ll be meeting Séamus this

Wednesday, July 17th, 2002

I’ll be meeting Séamus this evening for a drink somewhere around
Dublin - he’s giving the keynote presentation to a talk tomorrow in TCD,
so I thought I’d ring him and see if he wanted to meet up. So there’ll
a pub visit somewhere there :-) I think I am actually quite proud that I
know such a person as he is!

Listening to The Beautiful South

Wednesday, July 17th, 2002

Listening to The Beautiful South at work… for some reason I
really like their brand of music :-) I was listening to
Stereophonics yesterday, as the band was recommended to me a
while ago, and I thought I should get some exposure to them and see how
good they were. And they’re not so bad - I really liked some of their
songs, and we’ll see about the rest. Now that I have a good pair of
headphones at work, I’ll be listening to lots of new music.
