Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf
I made a return to Pier 39 last night - it’s actually remarkably close to Market St. when walking along Embarcadero. Admittedly it took me over 30 minutes to get there, but I was in an enthusiastic photographer mood at the time. And for all that, I did get at least two really nice photos, not just “I was there” photos.
Pier 39 is one of those extremely touristy places, you can’t move without seeing yet another themed restaurant, or shop, or jewelery store. There were two cool bits to the area - no - three. Firstly there’s Alcatraz (but I can’t say any more about that until I get to go there). Secondly there’s the view you have of Alcatraz, the Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Thirdly, there are oh-so-many seals there! I’ve never ever seen so many
I’m not quite sure where to go this evening. I do plan to go to Alcatraz, J-town, Chinatown and (maybe) Castro on Monday, but none of those are quite suitable for the evening. We’ll see… Besides that, San Francisco isn’t really a touristy kind of town. It’s a great place to live, but there aren’t that many attractions. Well, the old cable cars are pretty sweet. I take that back. If you’re want to do things, rather than see things, San Francisco is great for tourists! Just a peek at this site shows how many interesting things are on. I just wish somebody had told me about this site before today ![]()
And then tomorrow afternoon, Mitch (and maybe Juraj?) and I head over to Tahoe, for an extended day of skiing on Saturday. And back to San Fran on Sunday, when they plan on taking me out to a fun place or two in town. End of ‘holiday’ is in sight…
