Ouch! Where’s the PDA’s niche?

Guardian Unlimited | Online | All features great and small

Well I can agree with the article for a large part. I’ve just bought a P800, one of those smart phones. And I have a nice laptop. And as a result, I’m really not in the market for a PDA any more. The phone in particular really crunches out any space from the PDA, for ME. It could be different for others, of course…

Subtext: phone is delivered, I want to get home ASAP to check it out :-)

The New Yorker: Fact

Confirmation

Wednesday, March 26th, 2003

It’s a beautiful day and I’m off to my brother Cian’s confirmation. I hope the rest of the day is as good, and that everything goes extremely smoothly. Confirmations are one of the last big family “get-together” occasions, as most of my cousins are all grown-up at this stage. Scary thought!

Thanks to Karlin, here the dialogue between London Times war correspondent Christina Lamb and Pat Kenny on Irish radio yesterday.

Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | George Monbiot: One rule for them

The statements of Rumsfeld to complain against the display of US POWs in Iraq are put in stark contrast against US actions against their enemies in a prison camp in Cuba.

I’m going to get a new phone!

Tuesday, March 25th, 2003

It’s one of those defining moments - when you decide to just go for it and get a new toy :-) And this is a nice toy - the Sony-Ericsson P800. Ahem. Not a toy. A valuable organisational communications device. Really important to my personal productivity. I just have to find a buyer for my Ericsson T68. Such a nice phone, but the P800 just called to me :-)

Guardian Unlimited | World dispatch | Flags in the dust

Friday brought the appalling “Shock n’ Awe Show” which, in its visual effects, resembled something that might have been conceived by a big-budget Hollywood director. Its military purpose, if any, is still far from clear, and those shocked by it were mainly TV viewers outside Iraq.

After decades of wars, sanctions and repression, Iraqis themselves have become inured to almost anything. As the attack was ending, some of the Arab TV channels lingered for a few seconds on a bizarre scene in flickering night-vision green: Iraqi spectators standing in open parkland on the opposite side of the river, watching the fireworks.

Just the beginning

Scary prospects here for what *some* people would like to see happen. How much power and influence do they have in Washington DC?

My Political Stereotype

Sunday, March 23rd, 2003

Light-hearted, hardly scientific.

Roosevelt
Democrat - You believe that there should be a free market which is reigned in by a modest state beaurocracy. You think that capitalism has some good things, but that those it helps should be obliged to help out their fellow man a little. Your historical role model is Franklin Rosevelt.

Which political sterotype are you?
